You have spent over three months with the current keeper of your crowns, and it is now time to part ways with your old plaque protector and get a new toothbrush. How will you ever make the decision among the millions of different bristles, rotating heads, and cartoon themed handles? Here are a few tips that make picking out a toothbrush a simple choice.

The beauty of good bristles

The single most important aspect of a toothbrush is its ability to help keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. So when shopping for a new toothbrush, the thing to take note of are the bristles, which is what actually does the cleaning. General rule of thumb that will work for most mouths: bristles should be

· Soft

· Nylon

· Have round heads

This is very important because using a brush with bristles that are too hard can actually damage or hurt your gums and cause them to bleed.

From its head to your mouth

Have you ever notice how dentist tools are pretty small? There is a reason for that. Your mouth is full of tiny crevices and nooks that can be difficult to reach and get into. You want to select a toothbrush that will allow you to get all the way in there. The brush head needs to be small enough, approximately 1" by 1/2", for easy access to all of those hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.

To buzz or not to buzz

There is no scientific evidence or proof to support that electric toothbrushes are more efficient at removing plaque from teeth than manual brushing by hand. They are a good way to motivate some reluctant brushers, i.e. children, to brush their teeth. They can also be very useful for people with limited dexterity, such as disabled or elderly people, as well as people with braces.

For more information on how to select a toothbrush, the correct method for brushing your teeth, or simply to speak with a Chicago family dentist, contact Dr. Bagai at www.drbagai.com

Joseph Devine

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Joseph_Devine

Zoom Before and After Pictures

Are you wondering just how white the Zoom in-office whitening system can get your teeth, here is a great video that shows some patient examples. Unlike using trays that are custom fit to your mouth, the Zoom system is fast and can be completed in one visit, taking about 45 minutes to complete. As explained on the Zoom website:

Whitening can get your smile looking its best. Non-professional procedures and clinically unproven teeth whitening tips can often lead to unsatisfactory results, you should look for a whitening procedure that is:

Fast and convenient
Long lasting
Low sensitivity
Proven to be safe and effective
Performed by a Dental Professional

Want to learn more about Zoom? Keep in mind this is not an exclusive list, just a sampling of foods that stain. Generally speaking, if a food has a lot of pigment it will stain teeth (for ex., cherries). If it is something that will stain a white carpet or t-shirt, it's something that can stain your teeth. Besides strong pigments, you want to look out for food that is slightly acidic like citrus foods because they open up the pores of the tooth enamel which causes teeth to stain more easily. The same holds true with drinks regarding strong pigments and acidity. Also be careful of anything extremely hot or extremely cold, as they can cause your teeth to expand and contract, allowing stains to penetrate more easily.
Staining foods/drinks

coffee

tea

cola

red wine

berries

curry

soy sauce

balsamic vinegar

citrus foods

dark fruit juices such as cranberry

Popsicles

tomato sauce

beets

tobacco

Supersmile

Supersmile is the #1 patented whitening toothpaste recommended by top cosmetic dentists.

This powerful patented formula contains:

Calprox® - clinically developed to safely whiten teeth.
Baking Soda - to freshen breath and maintain healthy gums.
Fluoride - to effectively fight cavities.

It is a top rated whitening toothpaste with dentists but with customers as well. This was my personal first choice after reviewing whitening toothpaste options. Results are different for every person, but I was very happy with the results. It was capable of removing stains faster than other toothpastes that I had tried in the past and was not harsh on my sensitive teeth. I will be reviewing other whitening toothpastes on this blog, as I realize that what works for me might not be the best choice for everyone, but I knew that I would start with Supersmile. It is often a choice for people who wish to maintain white teeth after an in-office bleaching with their cosmetic dentist. You can find Supersmile at Drugstore.Com as well as other retailers.

Home Teeth Whitening

By Christopher Whitcomb

If your teeth have been stained from smoking, or too much coffee or tea, then you may be interested in a home teeth whitening product. You may not have the time or money for expensive cosmetic dentistry, or laser whitening. Fortunately there are a number of great teeth whitening systems available for purchase. Below I will discuss some of the options available to you if you need to whiten your teeth.
Okay, so you probably know most of these options, but I will explain in more detail below. One of the first products that came out a few years ago were teeth whitening trays. These trays work pretty well in terms of results, but I have had some problems with the trays. One of these problems is that usually they contain harsh chemicals that can cause your teeth to become overly sensitive to hot or cold food and beverages. Another complaint that a lot of people have with trays is that they are uncomfortable and don't stay in place very well. This can be quite a pain, especially because you have to wear these trays for up to an hour per day.
A very popular product that is still kind of new in the home teeth whitening industry are whitening strips. They also produce decent results, but again there are some problems involved. Again you need to wear these strips for up to an hour every day, so that is an inconvenience. They are not really uncomfortable, but they are very hard to keep in place. They seem to slide around very easily. So this makes them very hard to keep in one spot for an hour at a time. When I used white strips I found myself constantly having to adjust them,
One of my favorite home teeth whitening systems are teeth whiten tips. Basically you get a kit where you have some Q-Tip type applicators and some whitening gel. It is very gentle on your teeth and it only takes 5 minutes a day to use this product. It is great to not have to take an hour a day to get whiter teeth.
If you want to learn more about my favorite home teeth whitening system then visit my website BestTeethWhitener.org. We have full instructions on how to use teeth whiten tips.
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Christopher_Whitcomb

Go Smile

Go Smile is a teeth bleaching system that incorporates a Two-Step Smile Program using their exclusive whitening ampoules. If you are new to GoSmile, you start with their Smile Whitening System that you use for 7 days. It includes 14 ampoules as you use 2 of them every day. They also offer many products that maintain your white smile after using the Smile Whitening System. When using the ampoule you simply pop the tip and use the soft applicator to apply the product to your teeth. The ampoules are supposed to provide the hydrogen peroxide in a more stabilized form than other whiteners, thus making it more powerful. According to the GoSmile website, their product is safe to use on natural teeth, crowns, veneers and other restorative materials. You can purchase the product directly from the GoSmile site or from retailers such as Sephora.

Is Bleaching The Same As Whitening?

Some people may use the terms "bleaching" and "whitening" interchangeably. However, that is not entirely accurate. A product that is bleaching is also whitening, but a whitening product may or may not be a bleaching one. Confused? Let me explain it this way: when the term bleaching is used to describe a product, it means that teeth can can be whitened to a point beyond their natural state. For a product to bleach teeth, it will usually contain hydrogen peroxide.
If a product is labeled as whitening it means it can remove stains to bring your teeth to their natural white color. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion you may have regarding these 2 terms and make you a more informed consumer.

Crest Whitestrips Classic

If you need stronger whitening power than you get with natural options, Crest Whitestrips classic are a great choice.
There are many whitening strips on the market now, but Crest Whitestrips Classic is the original and there is a reason that so many competitors have produced their own versions-because they work. According to the Crest website, with the Whitestrips classic they offer:
• Visibly whiter teeth, guaranteed
• Noticeably whiter teeth in 14 days
• Clinically-proven effective

So how do they work, you wonder? Crest Whitestrips Classic are thing strips, almost like a band-aid. These strips are coated with a powerful whitening gel that contains peroxide. It is not as strong as those you would find at a dentist's office, but there is enough to noticeably whiten your teeth. After you apply a strip to your bottom teeth and a strip to your top, they stay on for 30 minutes before rinsing it out. You are supposed to use the product twice a day. Are they comfortable? Well, reviewing from a personal point of view, I found that I really didn't notice they were there. I was able to go about my normal activities and forgot that I had them on, the 30 minutes went by fast. How much they whiten the teeth is different for each person, but they include a chart to measure how much your teeth whiten as you use them. You can usually find them for around $25 and Crest frequently offers coupons on the product. Give it a shot, it could be just what was needed to improve your smile and if you end up not being satisfied, contact Crest and they will give you a refund.

Natural Remedies for Tooth Whitening

Do you have teeth with only slight staining? Are you looking for a more natural approach to teeth whitening?

Here are some tried and true natural teeth whitening methods you may want to try.

BAKING SODA
People have been using baking soda to remove stains from their teeth for many years before commercial toothpastes were even invented. It is effective in removing stains from teeth.

Baking soda is also great for keeping breath fresh and dissolving plaque.

Mix 1 tsp baking soda and a few drops of white vinegar, which will foam. Brush your teeth with this mixture. If you don't like using vinegar, you can try this: first brush your teeth normally, then dip your toothbrush in baking powder and brush over them again for 2 minutes.

STRAWBERRIES
The fact that strawberries have gentle cleaning and bleaching properties surprises most people.

Mash 2 ripe strawberries and spread with a soft toothbrush on your teeth (spread with a soft toothbrush so the seeds are not abrasive to your gums). Leave on for 3-5 minutes, then brush them with regular toothpaste (it is very important to rinse them well afterwards) and floss out any seeds in your teeth.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Apple cider vinegar is a common home remedy for many ailments and has been known as an effective way to remove stains from teeth. Either mix it with a little bit of baking soda to make a paste or you can gargle with it. It is safe enough to use daily.

Keep in mind that Natural Home Remedies for whitening teeth will not produce a dramatic bright white effect, but they will help to keep your teeth from stains due to coffee, soda or tobacco.

Learn How Teeth Whitening at the Dentist Office Works

By Robert Melkonyan

It is true that our teeth affect our self-esteem. It is a part of our appearance. Whitening directly changes one's appearance, and in an indirect way, it affects our confidence.
With the number of products and services that results in whiter teeth, people become confused with what to choose. These products and dental procedures differ in cost and pace in providing results. While the products used to be strictly classified with professional and home use, nowadays, products that are of the 'professional use' quality are now in the market. These products provide results closer to the professional dental treatment compared with the 'home use' products like toothpastes.
If you are more into fast results, the advised dental procedure is chairside teeth whitening. It is usually performed at a dentist's office. Also called teeth bleaching, this provides results in about an hour. The difference that can be seen in the result within an hour is four to six shades lighter, which depends on every individual.
Below are some facts that describe how it works.
- Bleaching is performed with the use of a product that contains 15% to 35% of hydrogen peroxide in gel formula. Before this treatment is started, the gums are protected with a gel (some use a dental dam) that shields the soft gum tissues. After this, the dentist will apply to the teeth the hydrogen peroxide gel. To increase the whitening effect, a laser or a special light (of the same purpose as a laser) can be used. After a while, the gel is rinsed off. The application of protective gel and whitening agent is repeated several times. Right after the treatment, you will notice the impact of your teeth's new shade to your appearance. This treatment provides a 'natural white teeth' result, in just about an hour.
- In case you have white fillings, it is advised that you replace them with a shade that does not go against the shade of your teeth after bleaching.
After the procedure, you might notice that your teeth sensitivity has increased. This is to be expected and is a natural reaction of your teeth after the treatment. The degree of teeth sensitivity however varies from one person to another. Nonetheless, the sensitivity will disappear within 24 hours after the treatment.
The advantage of an in-office whitening treatment is that you, as the patient, are sure that only your teeth will get in contact with the hydrogen peroxide. Also, with the dentist performing the treatment, he or she will know if the teeth in contact with the agent can still take another round of the treatment.
Before deciding, it is important that you consult with your dentist. Also, visit your dentist for check up and cleaning. It is only after these two procedures that your dentist can decide and advise you if you need a teeth whitening treatment.
